A textual analysis of Stay With Me by You Me At Six.

The genre of this song is Rock or Pop Rock, because of this the video features a lot of performance. As well as performance the video has a main concept, the concept of this video is that people have lost someone but they want them too come back and like the title of the song, stay with them. There are a variety of emotions attached to this video like; loss, grieving, sadness and happiness.

The lyrics of this song link to the main concept of the video, as the people who are burying personal items in order to bring people back are acting the lyric "stay with me" out. The lyrics of this song evoke quite an emotional theme to the song, this is reflected by the actors in the video. The tempo of the song at the start is quite slow as the video is just setting the scene, as the story becomes more obvious the tempo of the song picks up. There is one particular scene when all the people who have been lost start to climb out of the ground to be reunited with their partners, at this point the song reaches the climax of the chorus, "stay with me," this is very powerful. The emotional side to this song/video is further represented when the girl drops to her knees just as the song gets to the main line of the song. Another interesting point in the video is when, the lyrics say "these things take time to grow, it's been said that time heals wounds," as these lines are being sung a girl is watering the item she has planted in order to bring back her loved one.

This video is one of the bands more serious videos and has a much more mature feel to it. Some of their previous videos have had a much less serious theme to the them, this is because their second album, from which this song is taken, is more developed and emotionally charged. I think this video has introduced a change in the band as they try to be taken more seriously by their fans.

The music of the band is emphasised in the video such as, the close ups of the guitar being strummed in the build up to the chorus and the close ups of the drums. Early on in the song there are multiple close ups of the singer, these are linked together with jump cuts.

There are a number of close ups featured within this video, most of them are of the lead singer, Josh Franceschi. He could be seen as a role model to some of the younger fans as he is only young himself and his band are quite successful. There are also close ups of the other band members playing their instruments during the instrumental scenes. In the video the band members are all dressed normally while they are performing the song, because it is outside they are all wearing hoodies and jackets.
