Deaf Havana- Smiles All Around

This video goes against its genre, normally with Alternative Rock, there are a lot of bands performance and story of video leaves you confused, This video has a larger meaning to it as the video is minimal, I believe this is to emphasise the the lyrics. In the video the band members work from location to location, there are no performance based clips, it is only the singer, singing. I also believe this song is a lot softer than normal, the video is different to there others as they have just lost a band member due to private reasons, so I believe the band wants its audience to pay more attention to the lyrics.
The camera is used effectively in this video, the shots are short and sharp keeping the audience guessing, there are a lot of close ups on the band members the song appears to be sung with emotion, this is shown in the close up, also the lead singer is the only member that keeps eye contact with the audience, the other members look away.
There are some over shoulder shots which are also effective as they are added in quickly, the filming is one of the main reasons why the video has been kept entertaining, there are also many sceneries to keep audience on there toes.
The camera movement is done well, there is a lot of panning and tracking as the band are on the move for the whole video. The Scenery in the video is very nice and colourful, there is not really a story to video.
I believe the song, is trying to promote change and life after the main singer left the band. The song is called Smiles all around, which is a positive song title. The lyrics start negative and the visual effects are negative and dark,
'So where do I begin, I woke up today and dragged this broken suitcase through the rain.'
'I've been searching for inspiration I lost along the way.'

'And you said before I left 'James don't drink yourself to death.'

Then the visuals are brighter and more positive and the scenery is nicer.

'While you sleep alone tonight, Ill be up til the morning light, so for now things will be alright!'
